History of the Bergblick

In picturesque Aeschi near Spiez, nestled in the mountains of the Bernese Oberland, lies the Hotel Bergblick, a place of timeless beauty and unforgettable hospitality.

The beginnings

The history of this hotel is closely linked to the Meichtry family, which was built by Heinrich and Cecile Meichtry in 1964. They were the proud parents of three wonderful children. Heinrich Meichtry ran a carpentry business, while Cecile Meichtry ran the Hotel-Restaurant Bergblick.

In 1996, son Peter died unexpectedly. Despite this loss, the family continued their work and the hotel was still run by Cecile.

Cecile, a remarkable woman full of strength and kindness, guided the history of the hotel with dedication until her death in 2009.

After the loss of Cecile, the hotel lost its anchor point and changed hands between different tenants over many years. However, the bond between the Meichtry family, and in particular their granddaughter Céline Meichtry, and the Hotel Bergblick remained strong and unshakeable. In 2022, shortly before his death, Heinrich Meichtry handed over the hotel to his son Martin and his wife Karin, with the blessing of Barbara Schoch-Meichtry, Martin's sister.

The modernisation

Martin and Karin spent eight months renovating and modernising the Hotel Bergblick. Finally, in June 2024, it opens its doors under the management of Céline, Karin and Martin's daughter. Today, in 2024, the Hotel Bergblick presents itself as the Bergblick Lodge. With the active support of Martin and Karin, the hotel has been renovated and remodelled. The reopening is planned for July 2024. The Meichtry family invites travellers from all over the world to experience their history in the heart of the Swiss Alps, with a renewed spirit of hospitality and a clear vision for the future.

Céline Meichtry - third generation hostess

For me, the Bergblick Lodge is much more than just a hotel. As the granddaughter of the founders, Heinrich and Cecile Meichtry, I have been characterised by hospitality and a love of nature since I was a child. These values remain with me to this day and have shaped my vision for the Bergblick Lodge.

My career path has taken me through various renowned hotels, both in Switzerland and abroad. After my commercial apprenticeship specialising in the hotel and catering industry at the Hotel Ambiance in Zermatt, a wonderful family business, I did a six-month internship at the Hilton London Metropole, Europe's largest hotel. Back in Switzerland, I worked as a receptionist at the renowned Best Western Plus Hotel Bern. This experience, combined with my extra-occupational further training in hotel management, further strengthened my passion for the hotel industry and prepared me to take over the Hotel Bergblick.

Céline Meichtry, third generation hostess

My aim is to continue the family tradition and at the same time set new standards in terms of service and hospitality. With a strong focus on sustainability and quality, I strive to offer our guests unforgettable experiences and to make the Bergblick Lodge a place of relaxation and encounters in the midst of the breathtaking Swiss Alps.

The last few months have been characterised by intensive renovation work and the development of our brand in order to be able to open the Bergblick Lodge in new splendour in June 2024. I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks to my parents, Karin and Martin Meichtry, and my brother Silvio Meichtry for their tireless support and their trust in my work.

I look forward to welcoming you personally to the Bergblick Lodge soon and to providing you with unforgettable moments in the midst of the breathtaking Swiss Alps.

– Your hostess, Céline Meichtry (25)
